Teaching & training

White nails 60s styleI lecture at London Metropolitan University and City, University of London. I also lead Bauer Academy courses and run a regular pitching workshop for travel PR professionals of all levels, with my colleague Helen Ochyra.

I provide training sessions for charities, agencies and corporate clients, and can also provide 1-2-1 or small group media training sessions directly with agency clients or in-house press and marketing teams.

I first launched training courses with freelance journalist, Olivia Gordon, in 2008. As well as running independent distance learning courses on ideas & pitching, we also taught workshops on behalf of journalism.co.uk, covering real life journalism and successful freelance journalism.

In summer 2011, I was recruited by Victoria Neumark-Jones, associate professor of journalism and course leader for the BA in Journalism at London Met, to become the fashion journalism lecturer at the university.

After two years teaching fashion journalism, I was invited to devise and teach a second module in styling and journalism.

In late 2015, I was tasked with writing and adapting modules for the Fashion Marketing and Journalism BA at the university and now teach three modules on the degree course: fashion writing and reporting (3rd year), styling and journalism (2nd year) and fashion history and concepts (1st year).

In September 2017, I joined City, University of London as a visiting lecturer teaching two third year modules: arts and culture journalism and fashion and lifestyle journalism.

I also guest lecture regularly, with slots at institutions including Winchester, Arcadia and Regent’s University.

I taught my first Guardian Masterclass in summer 2015 and have since led workshops on writing brilliant content and blogging for the public, fashion retailers and marketing professionals. Through Guardian Masterclasses, I have also led bespoke training sessions for corporate clients, including Leo Burnett, and run workshops on copywriting at two consecutive Guardian Academy events for young professionals in the media planning industry.

My work as a freelance trainer/consultant has included training for the NSPCC and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, and I’ve worked with Channel 4’s 4Talent team as leader of the journalism workshop for its 2016 pop-up events in Cardiff, Doncaster and Corby.

In 2017, I worked extensively with the Dovetail Agency, providing direct media training for its fashion and travel clients.

To enhance my teaching and training, I’m in the second year of a Masters degree in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at London Met with a research focus on creativity in higher and further education.
