I work with charities regularly, popping into their offices to offer bespoke training sessions and 1-2-1 support for new or junior press officers.
What will you get if you engage my services? A friendly, informal, straightforward trainer with years of experience and a motivational touch. You’ll also get a discounted charity rate – so it’s a great solution if you want training for a charity on a tight budget – and a bespoke service, with a training session devised to perfectly meet your team’s needs.
A few laughs – and essential skills and tricks you’ll remember throughout your career – are added bonuses.
Here’s the lowdown on a couple of my most recent projects, providing in-house training for charity press officers, communication teams and editorial staff…
In 2017, I co-ran a series of training sessions for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity). Working with the in-house digital content producer, we devised a fun and informative workshop to deliver new tone-of-voice training to teams across the charity, from the comms crew to the events team and direct marketing department.
I also provided 1-2-1 mentoring for staff members at GOSH Charity, and took part in copy surgeries, where writers at all levels across the organisation could drop-in to get feedback on their communications.
Working with the NSPCC has been another highlight this year. I’ve acted as freelance editor on the charity’s Impact and Evidence Hub for two-years-running, interviewing contributors and editing posts for this innovative and ground-breaking evidence-based site.
As part of the NSPCC’s Learning Week 2017, I also delivered two bespoke training sessions on journalism and copywriting, and blogging. As well as teaching staff in person at the NSPCC’s London headquarters, the sessions were designed so regional communication teams could join them remotely.
What my clients say:
“We were recommended to work with Jo on the internal roll out of our brand refresh. Jo worked with us to develop and deliver the tone of voice training sessions to teams across the organisation.
“From the first meeting Jo was engaged, friendly, flexible and helpful. Jo quickly understood the refreshed brand and grasped what we needed from her. She has a really accessible manner and was great at tailoring her style to the sessions.
“Jo has also undertaken a number of one to one sessions with individuals to help develop their skills in copy writing, supported us with developing brand campaign messaging and proofed event collateral.
“We highly recommend working with Jo.”
Heather Gillespie-Jones, brand projects manager, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity
