How to pitch to and build positive relationships with journalists and editors

June 2017, Kings Cross/Euston. 10 places (max)

Freelance travel & lifestyle journalists – and former Guardian staffers – Helen Ochyra and Johanna Payton are launching a new workshop for PRs at all levels. This intense and hugely informative 3.5 hour workshop is completely focused on pitching journalists and editors and building positive relationships with them. It gives PRs unique access to two working journalists – and invaluable information on the mindset of editors and writers across consumer media, particularly in the fields of travel and lifestyle. The workshop takes place at a training venue within walking distance of Kings Cross and St Pancras station and starts after lunch, making it easy for delegates from all over the country to take part without requiring overnight accommodation.

The workshop covers:

  • An overview of the story ideas journalists and editors want to receive
  • How to prepare the perfect pitch (with lots of examples)
  • Pitching dos and don’ts
  • How to build positive relationships as you pitch
  • Frank and open Q&A session

What you’ll get:

  • A unique pitching workshop opportunity – bring along a new or unsuccessful pitch to workshop (confidentially) within the group on the day: this exercise will turn your pitch into a winner and give you a template to use when pitching in the future
  • The small group size gives every participant ample time to receive detailed feedback and support
  • Two highly experienced (and friendly) workshop leaders, with over 25 combined years of freelance and staff experience, who have written for leading national and international publications and websites
